Instagram, a social media network mostly youth-inclined, has caught fire in India as it has become the go-to medium to influence the youth in the country. It has been used by celebrities and brands to market themselves on a large scale, reports The Deccan Chronicle.
On the other hand, most social strategists and politicians seem to have not grasped this as they still use Facebook and Twitter as the go-to media to influence young voters, unaware of the fact that Instagram is the new fad.
Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, Union Minister Smriti Irani and YSRC MLA R K Roja are some of the politicians who have bucked the trend and are making the most of the youth-driven platform. Not many young politicians are seen using the platform, which is a surprising fact. Even tech-savvy leaders like Pawan Kalyan and K T Rama Rao are yet to make their Instagram debut.
“Instagram, with its large user base, will definitely play a very significant role in the elections this time, but most of the parties are not grasping this fact, since the concentration, especially of Opposition parties, is on Facebook, although Twitter definitely has come alive. Instagram is yet to be given that kind of attention, even though its penetration is deep into rural India as well,” said Naresh Arora, Political Strategist and Director, DesignBoxed.
