The 630-acre densely populated area of Dharavi in Mumbai has reported three covid-19 positive cases so far. On Wednesday (1 April), a 56-year-old resident of Dharavi with no travel history became first victim of novel coronavirus in the region.

However, the contact tracing of the deceased has revealed that ten people from Tablighi Jamaat were staying in one of his flats between March 22 and March 24, reports India Today.

The report further states that the Mumbai Police are assisting the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) in tracing the link from where the 56-year-old might have contracted the infection.

During this investigation it was revealed that the deceased man had another house in the area where he had hosted five couples who had visited Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi. There is a high probability that the deceased likely contracted the virus from his visitors.

The report further states that these couples had meals at his second house, while the men used to sleep in a nearby mosque. The deceased was the contact person for the group and arranged food for them. The couples left for Kerala, before the lockdown was imposed.

An official from the Shahu Nagar police station said, “Prima facie, the man was infected by one of his visitors. We have informed the Kerala government to trace, isolate and test them.”

As per Mumbai Mirror report, Deputy Commissioner of Police Niyati Thaker confirmed the development and said a probe is under way. He further added that the police are also studying the deceased man’s cellphone location in the last 14 days to trace the deceased man’s other contacts.
