Direct Centre To Drag China In ICJ Seeking $600 Billion In Damages For Spreading Covid-19: PIL In SC

A resident of Madurai in Tamil Nadu has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court of India seeking directives to the central government to drag China to International Court of Justice (ICJ) seeking damages to the tune of $ 600 billion for spreading the Coronavirus, reports Times Now.

It should be noted that the novel coronavirus, which originated in China, has so far killed over 2,000 people in the country and deeply affected the economy.

The person, identified as KK Ramesh, has listed Centre, Law Ministry, Health, Social Justice and empowerment ministries as respondent.

“There is substantial evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the virus originated from the Wuhan Institute of Laboratory,” the petition said.

The petitioner stated that since only countries can approach ICJ and not a citizen, he has filed the PIL in the supreme court.

Alleging that it was a deliberate ploy of China to undermine the emerging economies in the world, the petition said, “China intentionally tried to hoodwink India and the world by chalking up the cause of coronavirus to the animal market while there’s overwhelming proof that suggests that it is a biological and chemical weapon to weaken the powerful economies in the world. It deliberately created the biological weapon that killed a large number of people around the globe.”

The petition further stated, “that the present writ petition is being filed as public interest litigation, under article 32 of the constitution of India by the petitioner seeking a writ of mandamus or any other appropriate writ or order or direction or any suggestion or observation or particularly in the nature of writ, directing the respondents 1 to 4 to file the case of 600 billion u.s. dollars compensation in international court of justice against people’s republic of china on Covid 19.”
