Donald Trump ‘Not Yet Guilty’ Of Colluding With Russia During Campaign, And Obstructing The Cause Of Justice: Mueller

The Special Counsel, Robert Mueller, has found no evidence of the Donald Trump campaign’s collusion with Russia but did not exonerate the President from the obstruction of justice charge. However, Attorney General William Barr said he didn’t find enough evidence to pursue an obstruction charge, reports Hindustan Times.

“The Special Counsel did not find that the Trump campaign, or anyone associated with it, conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in these efforts, despite multiple offers from Russian-affiliated individuals to assist the Trump campaign,” US Attorney General William Barr wrote in a four-page letter to Congress on Sunday (24 March).

However, on the question of whether the President committed obstruction of justice, the special counsel said, “Ultimately determined not to make a traditional prosecutorial judgment”.

“The report sets out evidence on both sides of the question and leaves unresolved what the Special Counsel views as “difficult issues” of law and fact concerning whether the President’s actions and intent could be viewed as obstruction,” Barr said.

The Attorney General further quoted Mueller as saying, “While this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”

However, in his letter, Barr said he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein “concluded that the evidence developed during the Special Counsel’s investigation is not sufficient to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense.”
