Researchers and alumnus at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi have developed a laptop for visually-impaired, It is said to be the first such laptop developed in India having a Braille interface.
Suman Muralikrishnan, 27, from Chennai and Pulkit Sapra, 26, from Delhi- both students of the institution didn't settle for a job and continued their research for five years and have now launched India’s first laptop for visually-impaired.
The laptop instead of screen displays embossed text in Braille through a touchpad.
“The idea was conceived by our seniors 7-8 years ago. When I joined the college, five years back, we started working on it as a project, but as it started developing, it made us all the more intrigued into it. We started interacting with people and started to work on an interface which can share maximum information and in a user-friendly way,” said the duo as reported by Indian Express.
The laptop is built in with a Linux operating system and comes with 4 GB internal storage and is expandable up to 64 GB. The 40-Cell Braille variant has a QWERTY keyboard while the 20-Cell Braille variant has Perkins Key.
