DU Admissions 2019: Applications For UG Courses Fall By 20,000; Officials Cite New Application Process As Reason 

Applications for undergraduate (UG) courses in Delhi University fell by nearly 20,000 applications compared to last year as per data shared by the university, The Hindu reports. The last date of registrations ended on June 22.

According to Dean of Students’ Welfare, Rajeev Gupta, the sudden drop in applications could be attributed to the ‘edit option’ introduced in the application process this year.

He said, “Generally, there are a lot of duplications and given that the application fee is very low, people often apply multiple times to make changes.” For the academic year 2019, the university allowed applicants to update the information without making any payments until the last date of registration.

The other reason given for the less number of applications was the delay in the admission process and changes made in the eligibility criteria due to the intervention of the High Court.

However, Gupta disregarded this theory. “We are releasing the first cut-off list only about a week later compared to last year. I doubt that made a difference,” he said. The first cut-off list will be released on June 28.
