‘Dwivediji Is No More, But I Am There. Keep My Mobile Number’: Uma Bharti Says SP Will Attack Mayawati Again For Sure

Recounting the infamous incident at Meerabai Guest House in Lucknow in which Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati was rescued by BJP leader Brahm Dutt Dwivedi from an alleged attack by Samajwadi Party (SP) workers, union minister Uma Bharti has promised to help Mayawati in case of another attack, reports ANI.

“When the attack at the guest house happened, Brahm Dutt Dwivediji was there (to save her). He is no more, but I am here. As soon as she (Mayawati) faces a threat she should contact me on my mobile number, which is known to everyone. An attack on her (by Samajwadi Party workers), is guaranteed, whether prior to the (Lok Sabha) elections or after,” Bharti said, adding that it will again be Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that will come to her rescue.

The attack which the minister referred to was the ignominious 2 June 1995 ‘Meerabai Guest House Incident’, which almost took Mayawati’s life, ended the alliance of convenience between the SP and the BSP and sowed the seeds for bitter rivalry between the two political titans that was to continue until they were faced once again with political oblivion.

According to Patrika, even as BSP MLAs were dragged to the Chief Minister’s residence and forced to pledge allegiance to Mulayam Singh, SP workers broke into Mayawati’s residence at the Meerabai Guest House and began to beat her and tearing at her clothes.

She called Dwivedi for help, who saved her life by single-handedly standing there as a wall between her and her attackers, who were armed with lethal weapons.
