Indian Railways’ Train 18 has created a record like no other. The country’s first engine-less train on Sunday hit speeds of 180 kmph during its preliminaries on the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani course. With this, it has turned into the quickest Indian Railways train ever.
Talking about the noteworthy accomplishment, Sudhanshu Mani, GM of Integral Coach Factory, said, “Train 18 has clocked 180 kmph speed during the trials today. While many trials are still left, this is a milestone for Train 18. The data is yet to be analysed, but I can confirm that Train 18 achieved the 180 kmph speed today,”, reports Financial Express.
While Train 18 has been tried at 180 kmph speed on a segment of the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani course, it will inevitably keep running at a maximum speed of 160 kmph. According to Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) authorities, a new train is typically tried at 10 per cent higher than the speed it is relied upon to keep running at.
The preliminaries are expected to be finished as early as December after which RDSO will set up its report. Train 18, produced by ICF under the 'Make in India' initiative, has been imagined as a cutting-edge, mechanically better substitution than the Shatabdi Express trains.
The engine-less self-impelled Train 18 is relied upon to offer jerk-free and comfortable rides to passengers. ICF, Chennai, is being relied upon to unveil another rake of Train 18 in February and four more in the following financial year. The Railway Board is additionally considering a sleeper-class variant of Train 18 to supplant Rajdhani Express trains.
