‘Follow The Service Rules’: IAS Officer Kannan Gopinathan Asked To Resume Duties Till Resignation Accepted 

IAS officer Kannan Gopinathan who resigned last week over denial of freedom and expression to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, has been asked to resume duty and continue to work till his resignation is accepted, reports Hindustan Times.

A notice dated 27 August was pasted on the door of the government guesthouse Kannan, secretary, power department of the Union Territories of Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, was residing in.

The notice stated that according to the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) rules, the resignation by a government officer “becomes effective when it is accepted” and therefore, the IAS officer should resume his duties till the time decision is taken on his resignation.

When contacted, the IAS officer hailing from Kottayam, Kerala told PTI that he was aware of the notice, but declined to comment further.

Gopinathan had resigned on 21 August claiming he took the decision as he wanted to express his views against the “denial of freedom of expression” in Kashmir. However, his resignation letter didn’t mention anything over Kashmir issue.
