Following PM Modi’s Seaplane Ride In Gujarat, Centre Announces Plans To Link Smaller Cities By 2019

Just two weeks after Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew in a seaplane from Ahmedabad to Mahesana, Uniion Minister for Shipping Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju meeet today to work out a seaplane policy, reports The Times of India. The government wants to put the policy in place as soon as possible since it will take at least a year to start commercial operations on viable routes.

The government is speeding up the process to frame regulations with an aim to launch services by 2019, and will roll it out under the regional connectivity scheme (UDAN).

The Ministry for Civil Aviation (MoCA) will frame the regulations for the seaplanes themselves while the Minister of Shipping will frame the requirements for the prerequisite infrastructure including jetties.
