India’s former top diplomat and Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar has been made the new External Affairs Minister. Jaishankar comes into the job with a rich diplomatic experience having been inducted as a Indian Foreign Service officer back in 1977.
Prior to becoming the foreign secretary, Jaishankar served as the ambassador to nations like United States, China and Czech Republic. During his tenure as Foreign Secretary, he had been credited with resolving the Doklam standoff.
The Ministry was earlier held by Sushma Swaraj who decided to step aside this time round, having earlier opted out of contesting the Lok Sabha polls.
