Gambhir Promises New DU Campus For East Delhi, Turning Infamous Ghazipur Landfill Into Green Space

Noted former cricketer and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gautam Gambhir who is contesting the ongoing Lok Sabha elections from East Delhi constituency yesterday (8 May 2019) unveiled his 'vision document' for the East Delhi, reports Financial Express.

In the document Gambhir has promised to convert the infamous Ghazipur landfill into a green space, clean Yamuna river and to set up a Delhi University campus in the East Delhi.

Adding to his promise of turning Ghazipur landfill site into a green space, Gambhir also promised to make efforts to utilise the huge amount of waste to convert it into wealth in the form of energy.

Also, underscoring his intent towards cleaner Yamuna river, Gambhir highlighted that his foundation had already been working with 'Namami Gange' project to help clean Yamuna river. He said, “I had no plans to join politics then, forget contesting elections. My foundation was working on the project then also. I will work on making the ghats better.”

And, he stressed that given Indraprastha University had an East Campus, Delhi University (DU) should have one too given the DU students from East Delhi presently have to travel to North Delhi which is far away. Thus, he promised to set up Delhi University’s East Campus if voted to power.

Elections in East Delhi are scheduled to be held on 12 May 2019.
