In a brazen incident of mob violence, a cow slaughter accused who had been arrested by Uttar Pradesh cops in the Murad Nagar town of Ghaziabad district, managed to escape with the help of a large number of people who gathered outside his meat shop as police reached to make the arrest, reports OneIndia News.

The police team arrived at the meat shop located in Noorganj Mohalla to pick up Asif Qureshi and his brother Sazid in a case of illegal cow slaughter against them. The shop is owned by father of the accused, Aslam Qureshi, who is a former Murad Nagar municipal councillor.

Assistant Superintendent of Poice (ASP), Aparna Gautam, stated that Asif initially tried to escape but could not do so as he was cornered by the police. At the same time, large number of people including supporters of Aslam Qureshi, gathered outside the shop to free the two brothers.

The gathered people not only physically attacked the police team, but also pelted stones. Due to seriousness of the attack and escalating violence, the police team had to flee the scene. It is reported that the mobs chased the policemen for a long distance. The mob managed to free Asif who remains absconding.

The supporters of the councillor accused the police of causing injuries to Aslam Qureshi by attacking him with a knife from the shop. The police has denied all such allegations. The mob started a protest and blocked the Rawali-Surana road, due to which the commuters had to face problems. After two hours, the road was opened on assurance of the SHO that due action will be taken on their complaint.

ASP Gautam assured that the absconder will soon be re-arrested by the police.
