Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has won a sixth term as MLA, winning the by-election to Panaji defeating Congress leader Girish Chodankar by a margin of 4,803 votes, Hindustan Times has reported.
“Thanks for this support. Connect with people and performance is the reason for my win,” Parrikar said after winning the bypoll, adding that he will resign from Rajya Sabha next week.
According to the daily, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane is leading in Valpoi by 6000 votes by the end of the second round of counting.
While Parrikar contested against Chodankar and Goa Suraksha Manch president Anand Shirdokar, Rane is contesting against Roy Naik from Congress in Valpoi. Voting for the assembly seats of Panaji and Valpoi in Goa, Bawana in Delhi, and Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh was held on 23 August.
According to the Indian Express, Telugu Desam Party’s Bhuma Brahmananda Reddy is leading in Nandyal with 17697 votes. Congress candidate Surender Kumar is leading in Bawana by a margin of over 300 votes, reports ANI.
