India’s major automaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said that they had crossed cumulative sales of five lakh CNG vehicles, reports Car and Bike.
The company currently offers compressed natural gas (CNG) option in seven models including Alto 800, Alto K10, Eeco, WagonR and Celerio. Now, WagonR is the highest selling CNG model in the Maruti Suzuki CNG portfolio.
MSI introduced its first fleet of factory-fitted CNG vehicles in 2010.
MSI MD and CEO Kenichi Ayukawa said, "We are happy that over 5 lakh customers have selected factory-fitted CNG vehicles that are cleaner, reliable, safer and environmentally friendly.”
Further, he added “The benefit of low-cost of ownership comes along with environment-friendly fuel option of CNG. The government's resolve to rapidly expand countrywide CNG will enable many more customers to own an environment-friendly transport".
The factory-fitted CNG vehicles are popular in Delhi NCR and some of the cities in Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, UP, Maharashtra and Punjab. The company expanded its CNG vehicle to 26 new cities and had a reach of over 150 cities.
