The Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal has crossed Rs 36,000 crores, CEO Talleen Kumar has informed.

2.95 lakh sellers and service providers had already on-boarded the GeM with the government portal connecting them to the nearly 40 thousand buyer organisations registered on it.

Among the sellers, over 58,101 MSMEs were registered on the platform and 50 per cent of the entire transactional value on GeM is from MSMEs. More than 3000 startups have also registered on the GeM and they have received orders amounting to Rs 522 crore till date, a press release read.

Informing of the developments being implemented, the CEO said that the average time taken for seller registration has come down from 20 days to 2 days and that government entities in general and CPSUs, in particular, are increasingly procuring from GeM.

Kumar also announced that work is underway to onboard self-help groups (SHGs) and artisan clusters on the government portal whose unique products will be categorized as Emporium Products for better value.

GeM is a complete online marketplace that allows all bonafide sellers to register themselves and transact on the platform. All verifications and transactions are done through online integration in a cashless, contactless and paperless manner.
