Hello Singapore Says Northeast: Region Gets First Ever Direct Non-Stop Flight To South-East Asian Nation

Drukair Royal Bhutan Airlines will launch its first ever non-stop service between Guwahati and Singapore. This route establishes the first connection between North-East India and Singapore. With this launch, Singapore gets linked to the sixteenth Indian city.

Drukair commenced with this service on 29 September, with bi-weekly flights between Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (Guwahati) and Changi International Airport (Singapore). This launch is expected to bring down the travelling time, including transfers from 10 hours to 4 hours and 30 minutes.

As per reports by Financial Express, Lim Ching Kiat, managing director, Air Hub Development, Changi Airport Group said, “We are pleased to launch the first non-stop service between Northeast India and Singapore with our valued partner Drukair. India is the third largest tourism source market for Singapore and one of Changi Airport’s key growth markets.”

“This new route further enhances connectivity between Singapore and India, bringing the city links to a total of 16. We look forward to welcoming more travellers from Guwahati, who can tap Changi’s extensive network to destinations in Asia such as Australia, China, Indonesia and Japan”, the MD added.

Registering more than 4.5 million passenger movements in the past 12 months, India has become Singapore airport’s sixth largest market, growing at 14 per cent year-on-year.

Indigo has already launched daily flight services from Kolkata and Tiruchirapalli to Singapore last month. Air India Express is also all set to launch an additional four-times weekly services from Bengaluru, starting from October 29.
