Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has launched the Ease of Living Index (ELI) Indian states, in which Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh were on top, reported UNI.

On Monday (24 September), all three states were given awards at the National Dissemination Workshop on Ease of living index, 2018, for best performance under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).

Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri presented the awards to the states. On this occasion, the Minister said that the ELI is a transformative initiative of the Ministry in order to assist cities in assessing their liveability vis-a-vis national and global benchmarks.

The minister was confident that this index will encourage a competitive environment and will make cities strive to move towards an ‘outcome-based’ approach in their urban planning and management.

“The ease of living index seeks to assist cities in undertaking a 360-degree assessment of their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats,” he said.

The exercise of generating the index was four months long, and besides collecting data on a range of metrics in order to evaluate the performance of the administration of the city, more than 60,000 citizens also gave their feedback to measure their satisfaction with the urban services. 111 cities were covered in the first round of ease of living.
