According to a nationwide survey, engineering skills and courses continue to be the best guarantors of employability in India when compared to other degrees like Master of Business Administration (MBA), Times Of India has reported.
The survey results were published in the India Skill Report 2019 which was developed jointly by People Strong, Wheebox and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Association of Universities.
The survey which was based on the work, employability and skills test taken by over 3 lakh students this year (2018), noted that the employability of MBA has dropped by over three percentage points. This has led to widening difference in employability between engineering graduates (57.1 per cent) and MBA students (36.4 per cent).
Andhra Pradesh retained its top spot in the list of states with the highest employability. West Bengal dethroned Delhi (third) to take the second spot. Less prosperous states like Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan broke into the top five rankings and displaced well-off states like Gujarat and Karnataka.
