Home Ministry Refutes Reuters Report On Kashmir Protests, Calls It ‘Completely Fabricated And Incorrect’

BySwarajya Staff

India’s Ministry of Hime Affairs has called a media report by international news and media group Reuters on protests happening in Kashmir as ‘completely fabricated and incorrect’.

The report had also appeared in the Pakistani news medium Dawn, and claimed that 10,000 people were involved in a protest against the revocation of special status to Jammu & Kashmir (J&K).

The ministry has clarified that the environment in areas like Srinagar and Baramulla, which before the revocation of Article 370 used to suffer from stone pelting mobs, are largely peaceful. The protests if any, have had crowds of no more than 20 people.

While prohibitory orders had been imposed across the state before the revocation of its special status through a bill introduced on 5 August, the situation in the state is now slowing becoming normal.

The state government had ordered its employees at divisional and district levels and Civil Secretariat in Srinagar to report back to duty with immediate effect on Thursday (8 August) and schools in Jammu were set to be open from today (10 August) onwards.
