At the Rashtrapati Bhavan yesterday (Thursday, 14 March), President Ram Nath Kovind presented the Gallantry Awards and the Distinguished Service Decorations as part of the Defence Investiture Ceremony- 2019, reports Business Standard. Major Aditya Kumar was honoured with a ‘Shaurya Chakra’ for displaying his role in courageous leadership in an anti-terror operation in Jammu & Kashmir.
4 terrorists were eliminated in the operation which was planned meticulously by Major Kumar. The officer belongs to the 10th battalion of the highly decorated Garhwal Rifles. During the ceremony, a number of important dignitaries including the likes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and others were present.
General Bipin Rawat was also honoured with the highly regarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) for distinguished service of the highest order, reports The Indian Express.
Among other recipients of awards at the ceremony were Major Tushar Gauba, who was awarded the Kirti Chakra and Vice Admiral Sunil Anand, who was honoured with the Nao Sena Medal.
