The newly inaugurated 16 kilometre Ameerpet-LB Nagar metro received a massive public response on the first day of its operation, Times of India has reported, with close to 19,000 passengers making use of the metro line. Hyderabad Metro ran 71 trips on Monday (24 September). The administration had plans of running 270 trips on Tuesday.
The stretch till Mindspace station of the metro is also in advanced stages of construction according to the managing director of Hyderabad Metro N V S Reddy. All three lines of Hyderabad Metro are expected to begin operations by 2019. Meanwhile, Hyderabad Metro rail has been listed as among top 10 projects of the world by Institution of Civil Engineers for the Best Engineering Project of the World award.
The Hyderabad Metro is also touted to be the largest public-private partnership in the world. L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad has invested over Rs 12,000 crore in the project. The project has secured a viability gap funding (VGF) to the tune of Rs 1,458 crore from the Central government.
