‘I Have No Plans To Resign’: Haryana Congress Chief Refuses To Take The Blame For Party’s Poll Debacle

BySwarajya Staff

Even as a number of state unit presidents of the Congress have offered to resign ever since the party’s debacle in the Lok Sabha polls, Haryana Congress president Ashok Tanwar stands out for refusing to blame himself for the party losing all the seats in the state to the BJP, and is thus firm on not stepping down from his post, reports The Indian Express.

“I have not resigned from my post, nor do I have any plans to do so,” Tanwar said.

Unlike Tanwar, a number of state unit heads of the party have offered resigned or at least made an offer to step down, incuding Raj Babbar from Uttar Pradesh, Ashok Chavan from Maharashtra, Niranjan Patnak from Odisha.

Rahul Gandhi had himself reportedly taken moral responsibility for the loss and had offered to resign at the Congress working committee’s meeting in New Delhi. But Tanwar has a different way of viewing things.

“It is a collective responsibility that we need to take. It is not one man who can be held responsible. We need to introspect the reasons. For this, we have called all the candidates for a meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday. Senior leaders will attend the meeting. We will discuss the future course of action and what all needs to be done,” remarked Tanwar.
