ICC Requests Lankan Cricket Fraternity To Report Corruption Or Face Expulsion 

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has requested the scandal-ridden cricket fraternity of Sri Lanka to come out clean before the amnesty period of 15 days expires or risk facing expulsion from the game, reports The New Indian Express.

According to the report, cricket in the island nation has been embroiled in allegations of corruption over the recent years with charges including pitch doctoring and match-fixing.

Sri Lankan cricketers were granted a 15-day amnesty a few weeks ago to report previously undisclosed information involving corruption in the highly popular sport. ICC, which is the apex body of cricket around the world, stated that it had received a positive response to the move.

Alex Marshall, ICC’s anti-corruption chief, said that new cases had come to light; therefore, it was best for the Sri Lankan administrators to come forward before the amnesty expired on Thursday (31 January).

“In the final few days, I would request the cricket fraternity to come forward and share any other information concerning corrupt conduct or approaches in the strictest of confidence,” Marshall was quoted in the report as saying.

“Those who refuse to share information with ICC investigators could face five-year bans if caught,” Marshall said.
