In His First Oval Office Speech, Trump Makes Case For Border Wall, Hails Slain Indian-Origin Cop As A ‘National Hero’

United States President Donald Trump, in his first oval office address to the nation, pitched the need for a wall along the southern border of the country. He also hailed Indian-origin policeman Ronil “Ron” Singh, who was killed recently in California by an illegal immigrant, as a national hero.

Building a case for the wall along the Mexico border, Trump said precious lives were cut short repeatedly by those who have violated the borders.

"In California, an air force veteran was raped, murdered, and beaten to death with a hammer by an illegal alien with a long criminal history. In Georgia, an illegal alien was recently charged with murder for killing, beheading and dismembering his neighbour. In Maryland, MS-13 gang members who arrived in the United States as unaccompanied minors were arrested and charged last year after viciously stabbing and beating a 16-year-old," he said.

On the federal government shutdown, Trump said his administration was doing everything to help those impacted by the situation. He, however, added that the only solution to this was for Democrats to pass a spending bill that defends the border and reopens the government.

Speaking about slain cop Singh, Trump hailed him as a ‘national hero’. "America's heart broke the day after Christmas when a young police officer in California was savagely murdered in cold blood by an illegal alien (who) just came across the border. The life of an American hero was stolen by someone who had no right to be in our country," Trump said.

The Californian police have arrested 33-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico identified as Gustavo Perez Arriaga on charges of killing Singh.
