To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Divas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday (26 July) shared pictures of his interactions with soldiers of the Indian Army during the Kargil War.
Prime Minister Modi was working for the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh when the war broke out in 1999. He thus decided to pay a visit to army bases and interacted with soldiers participating in the war to show his solidarity for the brave efforts and sacrifices.

Every year 26 July is celebrated as Kargil Vijay Diwas across India to mark the successful completion of Operation Vijay on this day in 1999 which was launched by the Indian Armed Forces to take back command of mountainous outposts captured by Pakistan.
India mobilised a total of 2 lakh soldiers as part of the operation which resulted in a monumental Indian victory.
