India, Japan Partner To Provide Freight Services
India has partnered with Japan to provide scheduled freight services between the cities of Delhi and Bengaluru. The Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has selected Nippon Express to partner with Indian Railways and the Container Corporation of India to transport finished cars and cargo. The first train will depart on 20 January from Delhi and return on 24 January.
The project is aimed at improving rail freight services and hope this project is expanded throughout the country and not only on the Delhi-Bengaluru sector.Japanese Ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu
Indian Railways said this move would increase the frequency of freight consignments as only one scheduled freight train operates on this route with a total of seven across the country. Nippon Express would be the first foreign player operating such a service in India.
