India Reports 1,84,372 Fresh COVID-19 Cases, The Highest Single-Day Tally Since The Onset Of The Pandemic

In a serious development, India on Tuesday (13 April) recorded 1,84,372 new coronavirus infections, the highest figure since the onset of the pandemic last year, reports Times of India.

Yesterday’s tally represents an 8.5 per cent rise from the previous peak of 1.7 lakh recorded on Sunday. It also took the total cases in India to over 1.38 crore. Meanwhile, Tuesday also saw the nationwide tally of daily COVID-19 deaths rise by a count of 1027, the highest daily toll in nearly six months. India's overall death count at 1,72,085 is the fifth-highest in the world.

Maharashtra continued to lead the surge in new cases with over 60,000 new cases and 281 deaths in past 24 hours. Along with Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh are the four states which saw the highest number of fresh Covid-19 infections. Delhi also saw the highest single-day spike with 13,468 new COVID-19 cases and 81 deaths being recorded.

Maharashtra has also announced Section 144 for 15 days in the state with only essential services allowed between 7 am and 8 pm.
