On the occasion of Teachers Day, India is all set to get its first rail university, the National Rail and Transport University (NRTU), Economic Times has reported.

Prime Minister Modi is expected to throw open the gates of NRTU in Vadodara giving a fillip to the technical capabilities of the Indian railways. Initially, it is expected that the university would provide two courses namely a BBA in Transportation Management and BSc in Transportation Technology.

The setting up of the NRTU is expected to fulfill PM Modi’s vision of overhauling India’s creaking rail network by focusing on research and development. Some of the areas where the university is expected to impart education relate to the fields of radio frequency identification, artificial intelligence and satellite based tracking.

It is expected that the University would accommodate around 3000 full time students in the near future while also boosting employability options and stoking entrepreneurial spirits. Initially, the NRTU will be housed in Vadodara’s historic Pratap Vilas Palace which also houses the National Academy of Indian Railways before shifting to its 100 acre campus which is in the process of being constructed.
