BySwarajya Staff

Firing was on across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch on Thursday (19 December) after Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire and the Indian Army retaliated, the army said.

Pakistan opened unprovoked fire with small arms and mortars in Mankote sector of Poonch and Indian troops were "retaliating befittingly" an army statement said.

The firing from across the border in Mankote sector was retaliated befittingly by the Indian Army, a defence spokesperson said, adding there was no immediate report of any casualty on the Indian side, reports Economic Times.

On Monday (16 December), Two Indian Army jawans were killed along the LoC in J&K. One lost his life in a fierce gunfight between security forces and suspected infiltrators in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district, while another was killed in cross-border firing after Pakistan violated ceasefire in Gurez sector of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Earlier in October, one civilian was killed and 5 others were injured after Pakistani troops violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
