Indian Army Sets The Standard: Builds Longest Suspension Bridge Over River Indus In Leh-Ladakh In Just 40 Days

The Indian Army has built the longest suspension bridge over the Indus river in the Leh-Ladakh region in just 40 days, Financial Express has reported.

The 260-feet long suspension bridge was built by the combat engineers belonging to the Sahas aur Yogyata regiment of Indian Army’s Fire & Fury Corps. The Maitri Bridge as it will be known, was inaugurated by war veterans.

The construction of the bridge was also made possible due to the valuable help of locals from nearby villages. In order to complete the bridge, Indian Army had to ferry 500 tonnes of construction materials and bridge equipment.

A couple of years back the Indian Army had also helped construct three foot-over bridges in Mumbai suburban railway stations following the collapse of the Elphinstone bridge.

Even during the Commonwealth Games when India was struggling to complete the construction of facilities on time, Indian Army had helped rebuild a collapsed suspension bridge outside the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in record time.
