The Indian Navy has successfully test-fired a Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) marking a major feat towards enhancing the anti-air warfare capabilities, reports The Economic Times.
As per the statement from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), the successful testing of the MRSAM has earned the Indian Navy a coveted place among a select group of navies across the globe which have this capability. The statement also added that all future major warships of the Navy will be equipped with the MRSAM missiles.
The test-firing of the advanced missiles was undertaken by the Indian naval destroyer ships INS Kochi and INS Chennai which have been deployed on the western seaboard of the Indian Ocean.
The Indian Navy carried out the tests in collaboration with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries who had jointly developed the missile platform. The platform was thereafter manufactured by the state-owned Bharat Dynamics Limited which runs under the administrative control of the MoD.
