Indian Railways To Introduce Common Line System To Ensure On-Time Running Of Trains In Delhi-NCR

BySwarajya Staff

The North Zone Railways is considering to develop a Common Line System (CLS) to decongest the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) zonal network, the Financial Express reports.

Delhi Railways is awaiting permission after submitting the proposal to Indian Railways. Once the nod is given, the project will be the first ‘common line system’ to be implemented in the NCR.

Once completed, the trains that ply in the zone can run through the CLS without waiting for a green signal during peak hours greatly benefiting the commuters.

“The number of trains coming from Ghaziabad to New Delhi is very high during the peak morning hours, but the trains going back from Ghaziabad to New Delhi are less. Hence, the route remains largely empty,” a railway official said.

The authorities would be able to send the trains back on the empty line in the same direction, he added.

The Delhi-Ghaziabad line has 29 stations that run from Rithala to Shaheed Sthal covering a distance 34.4 km, and the line is extensively used by daily commuters who reside in West and North Delhi and commute towards East Delhi.
