Indian Railways is all set to launch its first Utkrisht Double-Decker Air-Conditioned Yatri (UDAY) Express between Bengaluru and Coimbatore, reports Financial Express. Manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Perambur, Chennai, the first rake rolled out last month in March and is capable of speeds up to 100 km/hr. The train was announced in 2016 Union Railway budget by former Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu and will ply between Bengaluru and Coimbatore followed by another one between Chennai and Bengaluru.
The new train will feature mini-pantries for passengers to have meals and also the Railways’ first automatic food vending machine. The 14 coach train will feature two pwer cars, four chair cars with a pantry and eight chair cars without one. Toilets are to be fitted with modular fittings and later on with bio-toilets.
The entire train will feature WiFi connectivity, live location tracking through fixed displays in the coach, LED lighting, solar reflectors on the roof and can seat 104 passengers in coaches with a pantry. The remaining coaches can seat 120 passengers.
