The Indian Railways’ second Utkrisht Double Decker Air Conditioned Yatri (UDAY) Express is ready to be rolled out, reports Financial Express. Although the train has been manufactured successfully at Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala, its formal launch is on hold due to the model of code of conduct currently in place prior to the Lok Sabha elections.
The first UDAY Express train had been launched on the Bengaluru-Coimbatore route last year. There has been no official announcement about the route that the second train will be deployed on.
The new UDAY Express train is a double-decker luxury train and consists of six AC chair car coaches, each of them having seating capacity of 120. There are three more AC chair coaches on the train which are equipped with mini pantries, capable of seating 104 passengers each.
Each mini pantry will also come equipped with vending machines for purchasing tea/coffee and food. The pantry areas have been equipped with LED screens by RCF Kapurthala for the entertainments of travellers while dining.
The other major features of the train are: a colourful vinyl-wrapped exterior, extra-comfort seats along the lines of Shatabdi, modular bio-toilets, smoke detection and alarm systems. Moreover, the train has been produced with an air suspension system utilising multiple shock absorbers in order to ensure a smooth journey.
