Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (27 March) announced the successful completion of Mission Shakti, which has propelled India among the space elites of the world.
Under Mission Shakti, India has successfully tested an anti-satellite missile (A-SAT missile) by shooting down a live low orbit satellite about 300 km away from the earth surface.
This successful operation puts India in an elite space club and currently just three nations in the world - only the US, China and Russia, possess such a capability.
This means has India is now capable of retaliating against any nation which threatens its orbiting satellites.
The highly complex operation required the highest state of alertness and preparation as it needed to be executed at extreme speed with remarkable precision.
What makes the program even special is that it is a completely indigenous effort helped by various Indian scientists including those from the DRDO.
