India’s Secret Super Weapon: DRDO To Conduct First Test Launch Of Short Range Ballistic Missile Pralay

BySwarajya Staff

India is all set to conduct the maiden launch of Pralay, a tactical Short Range Ballistic Missile (SRBM) developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under a classified project, Livefist has reported.

The missile, which has remained wrapped in secrecy till now, is reportedly capable of carrying a 1000 kg payload and has a range of 350 km.

Its range can be increased to 500 km if the payload is halved. Work on it started in 2015 after the Army sought a 500-km range SRBM to go head-to-head against China's rocket force.

DRDO recently postponed the missile's maiden test launch due to Cyclone Phethai. According to a report in New Indian Express, the missile will be launched from a mobile canister launcher. The Ministry of Defence may evacuate people residing in 3 km range of the launching complex.

An Oil And Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) oil rig off the coast of Andhra Pradesh had tilted to a precarious degree due to Cyclone Phethai on 22 December. The Indian Navy had aided rescue efforts at the Rig. Commandos from its special forces unit MARCOS were deployed to help land the staff onboard the unstable rig.
