ISRO To Take First Step Towards India’s Own Space Station Via First Ever Satellite Split-Unite Manoeuvre

The Indian Space Research Organisaion (ISRO) this year plans to carry out a complex manoeuvre wherein the scientists will first spilt a satellite and then reunite it in outer space, reports Times Of India.

ISRO is set to carry out India's first-ever space docking experiment (SPADEX). The experiment would involve two separate satellites connecting with each other in the space physically. The two satellites will be sent up in the space on-board an indigenously made PSLV rocket.

However, the aim is to ensure the safe transfer of our astronauts from space vehicle to the other.

Isro chairman K Sivan, said, “The satellite we will launch will have two components. It will be separated into two pieces and then they will get docked into a single piece. This single unit will then function as a full-fledged satellite. This is a very crucial technology.”

The successful execution of the SPADEX will pave way for India's ambitions to have its own space station akin to the International Space Station (ISS) revolving the planet Earth. The space station would then serve as a laboratory in the space.

The project is to be executed before 2022-23 end when would be celebrating its seventy-fifth year of independence. As per Dr Sivan, the Gaganyaan project is expected to take place in December 2021.
