‘It’s About Terrorism Not Human Rights’: China Says No Islamic Country But Only West Criticises It Over Xinjiang Issue

China has responded to its critics over the treatment of Muslim minority in Xinjiang province by saying that none of the Islamic countries had raised their voices against it, reports CGTN.

"All the 24 countries criticising China are developed countries in the West, whose total population is just 600 million," she stressed. "There isn't any Muslim country or developing country [criticising China]. Countries supporting China can be found in continents such as Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe, with a population of nearly two billion," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said in response to a question on the Xinjiang issue at a regular press briefing on Monday.

Chunying said that the issue is about fighting terrorism and extremism, not about religion and human rights, adding that the 24 countries criticising China are also victims of terrorism and extremism.

"The past three years have not seen any terrorist attack in Xinjiang," she said, adding that the measures taken by the Chinese government have been very effective. She also stated that China would welcome "relevant personnel" from the countries criticising China to learn from Xinjiang's experience on fighting terrorism.
