Rajya Sabha MP and six-time world champion boxer, Mary Kom hailed the scrapping of Article 370 on Wednesday (21 August), reports Asian News International.
The renowned sportswoman expressed hope that the athletes from the newly formed Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will get better facilities to showcase their talents.
She said, "Central Government will directly be involved in managing things there. Sports ministry can directly reach out to all sports persons there."
This is the first time that Kom has commented on the developments since Home Minister Amit Shah tabled in Rajya Sabha the legislation to scrap Article 370 and bifurcate the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories.
Kom made the aforementioned statement on the move by Government of India at an event where she also apprised the media persons that she was preparing for the World Championship.
She added that she was mentally prepared for the challenges in the Olympics, which are set to be held in Tokyo, japan next year.
