India and Japan today (20 December) signed an agreement for the development of a Traffic Information and Management project in the southern city of Bengaluru. The agreement was signed by S Selvakumar, Joint Secretary of Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance and Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassador of Japan to India, in New Delhi.
Under the agreement, Japan has committed Grant Aid worth 1.276 billion Yen (Rs 72.86 crore) according a release by the Press Information Bureau.
The project will see the installation an Advanced Traffic Information and Management System (ATIMS) that includes signaling systems and and sensors to measure the traffic congestion length in core areas of the Information Technology capital in order to reduce traffic congestion and making the urban commute better.
