In a case of extreme negligence, a Jet Airways flight had to turn back after it took off from Mumbai. Over 160 passengers in a Jaipur bound flight were in for a shock as the crew members claimed to have forgotten to switch on the plug that maintains cabin pressure, reported NDTV.
“Jet Airways B737 aircraft operating flight 9W 697 on 20th Sep 2018 (Mumbai-Jaipur) had air turn back to Mumbai. During the climb, crew forgot to select bleed switch due to which cabin pressurisation could not be maintained,” a senior DGCA official said.
Most were suffering from headaches, around 30 passengers complained of nose and ear bleeds. The oxygen masks came down as the passengers onboard were petrified. A panicked passenger shared a video of the same.
An official of DGCA said, “ As a result, oxygen masks got deployed. As per initial information, few passengers have nose bleeding. Out of 166 passengers on board, 30 passengers are affected who have nose bleeding, few have ear bleeding and some are complaining headache”.
The crew has been taken off duty pending investigation and passengers were treated once the flight landed. According to aviation experts, a serious condition known as hypoxia can be caused in a scenario like this wherein there is a loss of oxygen flow across lung tissue and bloodstream.
