In the immediate aftermath of revoking J&K’s special status by doing away with Article 370 of the constitution, as well as bifurcating the state into two Union Territories (UTs), the central government has now decided to fast-track the development of the Kashmir Valley’s Srinagar Metro, reports The Times of India.
In furtherance of the decision, it will be hiring 1,300 personnel to work on the project for a variety of different jobs, including civil engineers, architects, signal electricians, telecommunication experts, etc.
The move is likely to boost confidence in the Centre’s willingness to work towards the new UT’s development, and comes close to the Kashmir Valley’s maiden investors’ summit which will be held in September-October.
The total cost of the Srinagar Metro is estimated to be Rs 5,108 crore, with the network being composed of two sub-corridors, one running from Indira Nagar to HMT Junction and another one running from Hazuribagh to Osmanabad.
