The security forces on Friday (28 June) foiled a plan by the terrorists to target convoys of the Indian Army and other security personnel using Improvised Explosive Device (IED), reports Zee News.

According to the report, the security forces killed one of the terrorists, who were reportedly planning to target convoys of security personnel, in an encounter in Kanipora area of Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir.

An official of the Jammu and Kashmir was cited in the report as saying that movements of some terrorists had been observed over the past few days in the area.

“Their (terrorists) movements had been seen in the area for the past few days. There were inputs that they might target convoys of Indian Army or other security forces using IEDs,” the J&K police official said.

As per the police, the terrorists were hiding in the area because it was just 3 km away from the Srinagar bypass road, on which convoys of defence and security personnel ply throughout the day.

The police official said that the area was being cordoned off for conducting search operations on Friday (28 June) morning during which the terrorists, who were hiding inside a house, started hurling grenades and opened fired on the security personnel and ran into nearby forest.

During their attempt to flee, one of the terrorists was gunned down by the security forces. Though the forces could not ascertain the exact number of terrorists as the area was dark, it is suspected that at least two more terrorists managed to flee. The security forces are searching for the escaped terrorists.

As per the report, huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives has been recovered by the forces from the site of the encounter.
