Just days after the United Nations Security Council voted unanimously in favour of ending Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory, the United States Secretary of State John Kerry is set to speak about ending the decades-long conflict.
Reuters reported that Kerry will lay out his vision for ending the Israel-Palestine conflict in a speech today (28 December). This speech can be seen as the Obama administration’s last word on ending a conflict that Kerry had hoped to resolve when he took office under four years ago.
Kerry is also expected to address accusations by Israeli officials that Obama administration pushed for the UN vote, which saw the US break from tradition to abstain and therefore allow for the resolution against Israeli settlements to pass.
