BySwarajya Staff

The Karnataka cabinet yesterday (13 September) gave its approval to the ‘Electric vehicle and energy storage policy’ with the aim of encouraging production of vehicles that use non-fossil fuel to reduce pollution.

Among the first states to do so, Karnataka will now have incentives and tax concessions for those in the field research and development as well as setting up of production units in the southern state.

The policy has been formulated by the Major and Medium Industries Department in consultation with manufacturers and other stakeholders.

The new policy will have several sops for consumers which will encourage them to buy electric vehicles.
