In a huge setback for the Karnataka Congress, one of its own MLA has termed the tape released by the party showing BJP offering bribes for support in the floor test, as fake and condemned the party’s actions.
As reported by Financial Express, Shivaram Hebbar, the Congress MLA from Yellapur, has denied that it is his wife’s voice in the tape. Congress had earlier claimed that the tape was the recording of a call between Hebbar’s wife and a BJP leader who offered her Rs 15 crore for Hebbar’s support in the floor test.
In the post on Facebook, the MLA has said that contrary to claims by the Congress party, his wife never got any such call and it’s not her voice in the tape. He goes on to say that he has nothing but disdain for those who indulge in such falsehoods in politics.
The Congress had been trying to use the tapes to gain a moral upper hand over the BJP which had emerged as the largest party in the Karnataka election. The Congress was placed second with 26 seats less than the BJP’s 104 tally.
The Congress in fact, to keep the BJP out of power, has settled for being the junior partner in its alliance with the JD(S) even though it won more than twice the seats than the regional party.
