Karnataka Likely To Open Religious Places From 1 June, Has Sought Centre’s Nod

BySwarajya Staff

Karnataka government has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking permission from central government to reopen temples, mosques, churches and other religious places from 1 June in the state, NDTV reported.

"We have to get a lot of permissions before opening up, so let's wait and see. If we get permission, places of worship can open by June 1," Mr Yediyurappa was quoted as saying in the report on Wednesday.

Religious sites have been shut across the country since 24 March with the announcement of lockdown due to coronavirus outbreak.

Karnataka has already relaxed many curbs after the fourth extension of the lockdown. Public transport, parks, shops, and movement of people had been allowed in the state.

The state government is now waiting for centre’s nod to make more changes in the guidelines of lockdown.

According to the report, a central cabinet meeting is scheduled next week where the issue of reopening of religious places could be brought up.
