Two men are arrested and remanded in judicial custody for allegedly posting a video on social media in which showed former prime minister and JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda and his family being abused, reports The Hindu Businessline.
The police acted on a complaint from a JD(S) party office bearer. The two arrested are said to be the party supporters who were disappointed by the family politics trumping party interest resulting in the Lok Sabha elections debacle.
Siddaraju, a petrol pump attendant and Chamaraju, a cab driver, are booked under IPC sections 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).
The fresh round of arrests happened not too long after the Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the immediate release of the Uttar Pradesh journalist, Prashant Kanojia, saying fundamental right to liberty is “sacrosanct” and “non-negotiable”, adding that the release must not be construed as endorsement of Kanojia’s social media posts, some of which were particularly vile.
Prashant Kanojia was arrested for sharing an objectionable video against UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on social media.
