Two government teachers have been sent on leave after their decision to post pictures of Om and goddess Saraswati on a Mathematics pamphlet sparked protests in a Muslim majority school, Press Trust of India has reported.
The incident happened last Friday at the Azhikode government UP school. Around 80 per cent of the students of the school belong to the Muslim community.
The pamphlet in question was distributed to students of the fifth standard and contained a Ganita Prarthana (Maths Prayer) which the kids were asked to recite daily to improve their understanding of the subject.
The pamphlet is said to have contained the Om symbol and picture of goddess Saraswati which sparked protest among the parents and local teachers who demanded that the teachers be removed from the school. The Parents Teachers Association (PTA) too demanded the same, following which the headmaster sent the teachers on leave.
